2. What is a cavity barrier ?

A construction provided to close a concealed space against penetration of smoke or flame

A construction to restrict the movement of smoke or flame within such a space

3. Where do we need them ?

Generally Cavity barriers are required 20 metres in either direction within the cavity.

The distance can be 40 metres dependant on the space underneath (Note: other exemptions apply)

4. What performance is required ?

30 minutes integrity

15 minutes insulation

Tested to BS 476 parts 20/22

5. What would be the ideal cavity Barrier ?

Must match or exceed the required performance standard.

Building regulations Document B seeks 15 minutes insulation. FireHalt Gold provides in excess of 30 minutes insulation

Document B seeks 30 minutes integrity. FireHalt Gold provides in excess of 120 minutes integrity

 

Must be "safe" 

The fibres used in the manufacture of FireHalt Gold are non respirable and above 9 micron in diameter. Respirable fibres, those below 3 micron, can enter the lung, defeating the natural defences of the body. The proprietary treatment used in the manufacture of FireHalt Gold is non toxic and meets food grade standards.

FireHalt Gold is designed to have minimum impact on the environment and individuals during manufacture, installation and its eventual decommissioning and disposal.

 

Should be clean, easy to work with and quick to install correctly.

FireHalt Gold weighs only 2 kg per square metre and is 8mm thin. Fully illustrated installation instructions are provided in each pack.

FireHalt Gold requires no special tools and can be easily cut with scissors or knife. Join adjacent sections with simple butt seams secured by staples.
